WTA 250 – TEB BNP Paribas Tennis Championship Istanbul

İstanbul Cup 2022 (also known as TEB BNP Paribas Tennis Championship İstanbul for sponsorship reasons) is an outdoor clay court tennis tournament on the WTA Tour held once a year in Istanbul, Turkey. This is the 15th İstanbul Cup tournament and part of the Women’s Tennis Association International WTA Tour 2022 tournaments. It will be held in Istanbul, Turkey from 19 to 25 April 2022.

From the very beginning, the organizers of the tournament had the idea to create a tournament that would attract the best tennis players of the WTA Tour, as well as give an opportunity to young Turkish players.

The tournament is currently sponsored by TEB BNP Paribas and matches are played at the Istanbul TTF Tennis Center located in the Istinye district of Istanbul.

Clay court season

With the start of the clay court season, the WTA will make a stop in Turkey, hosting the TEB BNP Paribas Tennis Championship Istanbul from 19 to 25 April 2022.

The WTA 250 tournament is one of the smaller clay court tournaments that precede big events like Madrid and Rome. However, he won’t lack star power as Indian Wells quarter-finalist Veronika Kudermetova will be the top seed.

Elise Mertens and defending champion Sorana Cirstea will join world number 23. Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan will take part in the competition, as well as clay court specialists Camila Osorio and Sara Sorribes Tormo.

There are 32 women in singles and 16 women in doubles.

The TEB BNP Paribas Tennis Championship İstanbul 2022 will feature 11 players from the top 50 of the world ranking. World No. 23 Veronika Kudermetova (reigning doubles champion), world No. 24 Elise Mertens (reigning doubles champion), world No. 27 Sorana Chirstea (reigning singles champion) and world No. 34 No. 34 Camila Osorio are the predicted top 4 places.

Some of the former top 20 who will play in the 2022 tournament are Caroline Garcia (former #4), Kristina Mladenovic (former #10), Elise Mertens (former #12), Petra Martic (former #14), Donna Vekic (former #19) and Ana Konyukh (ex #20) will try to get back to their best form.

The total prize pool offered in Istanbul in 2022 is $235,238. The winner will receive $29,200, which is more than last year.
